Kathmandu: Lawmakers in the National Assembly have emphasized the urgency of declaring a "special situation" and implementing immediate measures to curb the escalating road accidents in the country.
During the Urgent Time session in the National Assembly meeting today, parliamentarians underscored the need for the government to prioritize road safety initiatives.
Lawmaker Bimala Ghimire brought attention to the alarming increase in road accidents in recent years, urging the government to ensure free medical treatment for individuals injured in such incidents.
"The rising frequency of accidents reflects the high risk of our roadways. Factors contributing to these accidents include poor road conditions, driver recklessness, the operation of outdated vehicles, and heavy traffic," she highlighted, advocating for vehicle health checks, road improvements, and driver training programs.
Lawmaker Jayanti Rai urged the government to implement a special action plan aimed at reducing road accidents, citing the upward trend in road casualties.
Krishna Bahadur Rokaya urged immediate government action to minimize road fatalities, while Maya Prasad Sharma called for road upgrades to ensure safe transportation.
Lawmaker Mohammad Khalid emphasized the significant loss of life resulting from road accidents and urged government intervention to enhance road travel safety.
Additionally, lawmaker Tula Prasad Bishwokarma urged the government to take prompt measures to mitigate road accidents.
